During the exciting and often confusing time of development, teens require support in all areas of their life. Our longer appointment times and commitment to listening to our patients concerns help  provide adolescent girls with a foundation for positive mental and physical health while recognizing a need for confidentiality and trust.

Medical Concerns

Your adolescent gynecology provider can  guide adolescents in making positive choices when addressing medical issues. Concerns may include:

  • Menstrual and other gynecologic problems including heavy menstrual periods, irregular periods, polycystic ovarian syndrome, the absence of your period, ovarian cysts and concerns regarding puberty

  • Contraceptive management/birth control

  • Testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, including pelvic inflammatory disease

  • Eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa

  • Supporting diagnosis and management of uncomplicated depression and anxiety

Social & Emotional Concerns

Your selected provider can also assist with navigating the social and emotional issues that may affect a teen’s  mood and well-being. Topics often discussed at visits include:

  • Supporting strength and resilience

  • School and job preparation and achievement

  • Coping with stress

  • Building independence

  • Successful transition to adulthood

  • Concerns about growth and development

  • Sexuality and risk taking

  • Substance or physical abuse
